Discovery Days is an early childhood program for children ages 2 to 6 and their caregivers to have fun together with educational, hands-on art, music, and movement activities. When you attend Discovery Days with your child, you help them cultivate important school-readiness skills, such as language development, attention, concentration, fine motor skills, emotional regulation, and play and social abilities. Attend a session that fits your schedule - no registration needed. Learn more online and explore weekly themes at https://longmontcolorado.gov/museum/education/discovery-days/ or by calling 303-651-8374.
Who's playing
Ms. Leigh and Henry lead the art sessions of Discovery Days at the Longmont Museum. The art class runs in Classroom AB, and a separate music and movement class with a different teacher meets on other days. Both are part of the museum's wider education programs for young children.
What to expect
Each week has its own theme, such as ocean animals, trains, robots, rainbows or construction. The activities are hands-on art with a caregiver beside the child. Sessions run about an hour and a quarter and are capped at 40 people, adults and children together. No registration is needed, so families can choose a session that fits their day.
Why go
The program is built around school-readiness skills: language, attention, fine motor control, emotional regulation and social play. Parents join in rather than watch from the side. The Longmont Museum also has a children's gallery and a long local history, which makes it an easy place to spend a morning with a young child.
