Thursday, October 29 at First Congregational Church UCC, Boulder
First Congregational Church UCC
About this event
Spanish guitarist Diego Garcia "Twanguero" (Latin Grammy winner) brings his solo show Backroads of the Americas to Boulder - 90 minutes of Spanish folk, Latin American rhythms and American roots on one acoustic guitar, with stories from the road between songs. All ages welcome.
Who's playing
Twanguero is a guitarist and composer from Valencia, Spain, known for a fingerpicking style he calls Latino-twang. His records include The Brooklyn Session, Argentina Songbook and Carreteras Secundarias, which won a Spanish Music award for best world music record. He also won a Latin Grammy for his work with flamenco singer Diego El Cigala.
What to expect
A listening-room concert in the church sanctuary, with one guitar and no band. The program draws on his albums, including Carreteras Secundarias, The Brooklyn Session, Argentina Songbook and Panamerica. It also includes some unreleased material. Stories from years of touring the Americas fill the gaps between pieces. The music moves from earthy and rhythmic to quiet, cinematic melodies.
Why go
This is a first Boulder appearance of this show, and the room suits it. The sanctuary is built for sound, and the setting lets you hear the detail in the fingerwork. It suits guitar fans and world-music listeners who like to pay close attention.
