Noche de Museo: Celebrating Day of the Dead

Friday, October 30 at Longmont Museum, Boulder

Longmont Museum · Longmont $23,

About this event

Join us in our Stewart Auditorium for an evening of live performance in celebration of Día de Muertos that will span the ages, from ancient Aztecan dance with Grupo Azteca Tlahuitzcalli to the genre-bending rock and roll of iZCALLi. This annual community celebration of a centuries-old Mexican tradition has quickly become part of the cultural fabric of Longmont! Learn more online at https://longmontcolorado.gov/event/noche-de-museo-celebrating-day-of-the-dead/ or by calling 303-651-8374.

Who's playing

iZCALLi is a rock band led by Miguel Aviña on lead guitar and vocals, with Brenda Aviña on bass and Luiggy Ramírez on drums. Denver musicians join them. They sing in English and Spanish and draw on Latin sounds and fuzz-rock. Grupo Mexica Tlahuitzcalli is a traditional Aztec dance troupe that performs across the Front Range and returns to the museum for this event.

What to expect

The evening is a seated, staged program of live performance that moves from ancient ceremonial dance to modern rock and roll. The Stewart Auditorium holds 250 people, so the stage is close from most seats. The museum is in south Longmont, about a half hour from Boulder.

Why go

This is a community celebration of a centuries-old Mexican tradition, and it is local. The museum has hosted it year after year. Hearing traditional dance and a working Latin rock band on the same bill is a good way to take part in Día de Muertos in Boulder County.
