Longmont Theatre Company: The Rocky Horror Show (Stage Play)
Thursday, October 29 at Longmont Theatre Company, Boulder
About this event
Director: Bud Coleman Starring Bonnie & Taylor Sims | Book, Music & Lyrics by Richard O'Brien When sweethearts Brad and Janet seek refuge in a mysterious castle, they encounter the flamboyant Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his eccentric entourage. An outrageous night of self-discovery, liberation, and rock-and-roll spectacle.
Who's playing
Bonnie and Taylor Sims, a husband-and-wife duo known around the area as singers, play the stranded couple Brad and Janet. Jef Forsberg takes on Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Bud Coleman directs. The company has been a Longmont fixture since 1957 and has run the Performing Arts Center since 1990.
What to expect
Brad and Janet's car breaks down in a storm, and they seek shelter in a castle full of eccentric characters. From there it is sci-fi, seduction and rock-and-roll, with songs including "Time Warp." The company encourages costumes and audience participation, and official prop bags are sold at the theater. A full bar and concessions are open during the run.
Why go
This is the live stage show that came before the 1975 film, performed in a theater of about 300 seats where the cast is close by. Audiences here dress as their favorite characters, so the room is part of the show. For a Halloween-season outing in Longmont, it has a loud, communal feel that a movie screening does not.
