About this event

Colorado Nepalese Community | Curated by Binisha Shrestha “Heritage in Motion” returns in its third series as a living archive of Nepali identity – one that moves, adapts, and evolves across geographies. Rooted in the Himalayan traditions of Nepal and carried into the landscapes of Colorado, this exhibition explores how culture is not static, but continually reshaped through migration, memory, and everyday practice. Building on its previous iterations at the Aurora History Museum and Denver International Airport, this series deepens its focus on intergenerational storytelling and the quiet resilience of diaspora life. Through a carefully curated collection of artifacts, textiles, ritual objects, photographs, and personal narratives, the exhibition invites visitors to witness how traditions are preserved, reinterpreted, and passed on, often in new and unexpected forms. At its heart, “Heritage in Motion” asks: What does it mean to belong when home exists in multiple places at once? How do we carry forward the essence of who we are while embracing where we are? This third series places special emphasis on community voices, highlighting lived experiences of Nepali families in Colorado, where heritage is practiced not only in ceremonies and festivals, but in kitchens, conversations, and everyday acts of care. It is a celebration of continuity and change, of roots and routes, and of the enduring spirit of a culture in motion. Artists and Community Contributors: The exhibition features work by Ang Tsherin Sherpa, Erina Tamrakar, Asha Dangol, Subhash Awale, Yuvak Tuladhar, Paramesh Adhikari, Shraya Rajbhandari, Sajal Siwakoti, Sunila Bajracharya, and Kabi Raj Lama. Special recognition will be given to the exhibition’s lenders: Karma Bhotia, Shanti Shrestha, Shyam Shrestha, Neeraj P. Gorkhaly, Binisha Shrestha, Sabisha Shrestha, Megha Shrestha, Saraswoti Shrestha, Bekha Krishna Shrestha, the Family of Gopal Yonjan, Prashant Shrestha, and Suresh Pradhan. The Colorado Nepalese Community, serving as the guest organization for the exhibition, is an affiliated community partner. Curated by Binisha Shrestha, Heritage in Motion is an invitation to encounter Nepali heritage not as something fixed in the past, but as something living – carried across borders, transformed through generations, and continually made anew. Open Wednesday-Monday 9am-5pm. Closed on Tuesdays

Who's playing

Binisha Shrestha curated the show, and the Colorado Nepalese Community, a nonprofit that runs cultural events and community programs, is the partner behind it. Ten artists and contributors are featured, including Ang Tsherin Sherpa, Erina Tamrakar, Asha Dangol, Yuvak Tuladhar and Kabi Raj Lama. Many Colorado families lent objects from their own homes.

What to expect

This is a gallery exhibition, not a performance. You move through artifacts, textiles, ritual objects, photographs and personal narratives. The third series focuses on intergenerational storytelling and on Nepali families in Colorado. It looks at heritage in ceremonies and festivals, and also in kitchens, conversations and everyday acts of care. Earlier versions were shown at the Aurora History Museum and Denver International Airport.

Why go

The exhibition asks what belonging means when home exists in more than one place, and it answers through the voices of local families. The Museum of Boulder sits downtown at Broadway and Pine, in the former Masonic Lodge building. It is a good way to learn about a Colorado community whose story is seldom told in Boulder's galleries.
