Hellems Arts and Sciences
About this event
The Science & Technology committee recruits panelists who bring diverse perspectives to the development, application, and implication of current and emerging issues in life sciences, technology, engineering, and medicine. We take a broad view, engaging expertise ranging from artificial intelligence, astrophysics, and neuroscience to communication, healthcare, and science fiction. We pursue panelists who can effectively engage in informative and spirited dialogue on a broad range of contemporary and controversial scientific topics with a popular audience in mind. What to expect
This is a working committee meeting, not a lecture or a performance. Members brainstorm panel topics and identify speakers who can talk about life sciences, technology, engineering and medicine for a general audience. The committee looks for people who can hold an informative, spirited conversation on contested scientific questions. The meetings run through the fall, as the conference program takes shape.
Why go
The Conference on World Affairs has run at CU Boulder since 1948, and its committees decide who ends up on stage each spring. Students, faculty, staff and Boulder residents are all welcome to take part. It suits anyone curious about topics like neuroscience, artificial intelligence or science fiction who wants a hand in choosing the speakers. The meetings are in Hellems, a 1921 sandstone building on Central Campus Mall that recently reopened after a major renovation.
