What to expect

The workshop runs about two hours. You get step-by-step instruction, with clay, tools and glazes provided, and no experience is needed. Wear clothes that can get muddy. Because the instructor glazes and fires the pieces, you leave without a finished mug and pick it up in six to eight weeks. The tone is relaxed and chatty, a good fit for friends working side by side.

Why go

The class takes place in TinkerMill's Muddy Makers pottery studio, part of the largest makerspace in Colorado. The studio has wheels, a slab roller, a dedicated handbuilding area and several kilns. The class is led by the studio's own pottery shop captain, Sima Pierce. It is a low-pressure way to try clay and see the studio, and you end up with a mug you made yourself.
