Who's playing

Junghwa Lee came to Longmont from South Korea and has lived here since 2001. She teaches watercolor painting to beginner and intermediate students. Her origami class at the Firehouse has covered hearts, rabbits, butterflies, flowers, animals and cranes, with all materials included.

What to expect

The class alternates by week, with watercolor one week and origami the next. The series stops for Thanksgiving week and ends in mid-December. Drawing, painting and paper folding are all aimed at building creativity and confidence. Class sizes in Lee's earlier origami sessions were small, with a maximum of six students.

Why go

The Firehouse is a historic downtown Longmont building that has been an art center for decades. It has a gallery, ceramics studio and classrooms. Kids spend their afternoon in a working arts space, not a generic classroom. The alternating schedule gives them two different crafts in one series.
