What to expect
You drop in anytime during the two-hour window and watch the blacksmith at work. The sounds are part of it: the clang of the hammer and the hum of the coal forge blower. The demonstration also covers the tools of the trade, including hammers, tongs, anvils and swage blocks. Registration is recommended but not required.
Why go
The Agricultural Heritage Center centers on farm life in Boulder County from 1900 to 1925, and a working forge suits that setting. The blacksmith demonstrators are volunteers, and at least one has run his own blacksmithing and welding business around Boulder. You can stay ten minutes or the full morning, then wander the farm buildings and grounds near McIntosh Lake.
