About this event
TICKETS A woman arrives at a remote country pub in Ireland and is entertained by the local bachelors who drink there. As the men compete to impress her with ghostly tales, she reveals a startling story of her own. The Weir is a modern masterpiece from one of Ireland’s most acclaimed playwrights, blending haunting storytelling with tender Irish camaraderie. The play reminds us that empathy and friendship grow out of the myths and stories that bind us. Thursday, October 8 is Preview Night, with regular tickets just $25 !
What to expect
A single-set play in a country pub, driven by talk, with ghost stories passed around between drinks. BETC lists the running time at about 100 minutes with no intermission. The Wall Street Journal called it a meditation on loneliness and community, told so theatrically that you savor each peat-scented phrase. The Carsen is a theater-sized room, so the stories land at close range.
Why go
McPherson is among Ireland's most acclaimed playwrights, and this is one of his best-known works. It is quiet and funny in places, and it is about how friendship and empathy grow out of the stories people share. BETC is a long-running Boulder company, and the Dairy is its home stage. The run's final Sunday matinee is a Parents-Paint-the-Town show, with a free kids' workshop alongside.
