About this event

TICKETS A woman arrives at a remote country pub in Ireland and is entertained by the local bachelors who drink there. As the men compete to impress her with ghostly tales, she reveals a startling story of her own. The Weir is a modern masterpiece from one of Ireland’s most acclaimed playwrights, blending haunting storytelling with tender Irish camaraderie. The play reminds us that empathy and friendship grow out of the myths and stories that bind us. Thursday, October 8 is Preview Night, with regular tickets just $25 !

Who's playing

Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company is a professional troupe that makes its home at the Dairy Arts Center. The Weir was written by Conor McPherson, one of Ireland's most acclaimed playwrights. The Wall Street Journal called it a meditation on loneliness and community, told so theatrically that you savor each peat-scented phrase. The production is part of BETC's 2026-2027 season.

What to expect

The play is one continuous story in a single pub, with no intermission. The local bachelors trade tales of ghosts and local legend to win over their visitor. Then she tells a startling story of her own. It is a talky, atmospheric piece that depends on the actors listening to each other as much as on the stories they tell.

Why go

The Weir treats stories as the way people build empathy and friendship, and it does so with warmth as well as chills. The Carsen Theater is a good size for a play made of voices. Some runs include extras, such as a Parents-Paint-the-Town matinee that pairs the show with a free kids' workshop.
