About this event
Storytelling is a powerful and versatile tool that can foster connection, increase understanding, and challenge the status quo. When used effectively, storytelling can help patients choose the right care for them, it can help make the case for legislative change, or it can serve as a powerful antidote to disinformation. In this talk and Q&A, award-winning journalist Ann Marie Awad will discuss what makes a good story and share examples of how storytelling is used across different disciplines to achieve different goals. Ann Marie Awad serves as the editorial director for the Institute for Independent Journalists, and co-president of the board of directors for the Association of Independents in Radio. Awad has been a journalist for 16+ years, reporting for local public radio newsrooms like Colorado Public Radio and KUNC as well as NPR. Awad develops and produces podcasts through their production company, Odd Bird Sound & Word. Their work has won distinction from The National Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists, the Signal Awards, the Anthem Awards, New York Festivals, and the Colorado Broadcasters Association.
